The annual S-WHS Alumni Association all-class picnic is Saturday, July 10th, Riverfront Park in Sedro-Woolley!!!

Always well attended and full of "old" friends, the Picnic is the highlight of our Association year. Lots of planning has gone into this year's event. Come and have a good time! Bring your camera!

All SWHS alums and friends are welcome, $15 prepays your lunch reservation (menu is hamburger or chicken and salads, dessert, beverage, etc.), and the event begins at noon (we eat at 1:00).
It's not necessary to band together with your class - we encourage mingling! But many classes like to sit together and bring signs identifying their location. You'll be happy to know that name tags are provided!

Class of 1980 reunion June 26th

This will be an outdoor event so you will want to dress accordingly. There is a small indoor tasting room but otherwise we will be outside. We will have outside heaters that will be fired up when the sun goes down and if there is rain we will have canopies. The last three classes have all had their reunions here, we heard raving reviews and expect ours will be even better!

Please RSVP as soon as you can so that we may have an idea of how many people to plan for. This money will cover the venue, appetizers, two glasses of wine per paid guest (more available for your purchase if you choose) and a pony keg for as long as it lasts.

Seth Preston and Tom Jacobson are organizing a Sunday picnic for classmates and their families. It will be held at the Sedro-Woolley Riverfront Park, more details to follow soon. To contact Seth, send him a message via Facebook or e-mail seth.preston@hotmail.com .

SWHS AA - 2010 Scholarship Winners!

Lola Ellestad has summarized for us the Alumni Association scholarship awards for 2010:

SEDRO-WOOLLEY HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS

The SWHSAA presented vocational scholarships to the following graduates.

Joseph Carlson – a 2010 graduate of SWHS was awarded the Ole Harang vocational scholarship in the amount of $1,500. He will be attending Bellingham Technical School to take the mechanical engineering program and a welding course. He has designed garage plans for a friend which were submitted to the City of Mount and approved for building this summer. He was the team leader for a sign for the Janicki Industry plant in Hamilton. He participated in track, FFA, trap shooting, and the welding clubs. Joseph is the son of Robin Carlson-Blair and Mark Carlson of Sedro-Woolley.

Alicia England – a 2010 graduate of SWHS Alicia was awarded a vocational scholarship in the amount of $1,500 and plans a career in Culinary Arts. At the present time, she is enrolled at Skagit Valley College Culinary Arts program that covers safety and business management. Alicia was in the recycling club at her former school and volunteered with the Mayor's Youth Group for the city parks clean up which provided a better environment in her community. She has participated in Key Club, learning about helping charities and the value of volunteer work. Alicia is the daughter of Michael Newbaker and Debra England of Sedro-Woolley .

Elizabeth Fish – a 2010 graduate of Street High School was awarded a vocational scholarship in the amount of $1,500. She plans to attend the Gene Juarez Hair Academy and later has plans to attend the Art Institute of Seattle for photography, fashion design, and marketing. Helping the poor and disenfranchised has always been important to her and she chose to do her senior project on the homelessness in Seattle and across the United States. Her hope is that her career allows her to better the lives of others and help those in need. Elizabeth is the daughter of Steven and Dana Fish of Sedro-Woolley.

Kelsey Fox - a 2010 graduate of SWHS was awarded a vocational scholarship in the amount of $1,500. Her academic goal is to earn a degree in the medical field. She is considering becoming a dental hygienist, surgical technologist, or nurse. She was on the swim team three years and served as a high school assistant for an elementary school. She works summers at Sakuma Brothers and volunteers weekly at the Senior Center. Kelsley is the daughter of Raymond and Dina Fox of Sedro-Woolley.

Wendy Ringhouse – a 2009 graduate of SWHS was awarded the Susan Batey McKinley vocational scholarship of $1,000. She attended Skagit Valley College last year and plans to finish the pre requites at Skagit and then transfer to the Bellingham Technical School Dental Program. She played volleyball and softball while in high school and was involved with FFA. She worked for Hal's Drive In and Farmers Insurance. The jobs she has held have helped with her communications and to take on responsibilities. Wendy is the daughter of Terry and Pam Ringhouse of Sedro-Woolley.

Kaela Rosario – a 2010 graduate of SWHS was awarded a vocational scholarship in the amount of $1,500. Kaela wants to become a fashion designer, and plans to attend the Art Institute of Seattle. While attending high school she participated in the Yearbook, Blue Horizon (Jazz Choir), Drama Club and Spring Play Production. She has helped at the Soup Kitchen, Skagit Habitat for Humanity, and the Washington Firefighter Competition. Kaela is the daughter of Pete and Julie Rosario of Sedro-Woolley.

The Sedro-Woolley High School Alumni Association Class of 1971 awarded nine Academic Scholarships and one vocational scholarship.

Each winner receives a scholarship of $2,500 to the school of their choice.

Academic Scholarships.

Zachary Adams – a 2010 graduate of SWHS plans a major in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or Microbiology as a path to medical school. Zach played football and baseball for SWHS and maintained a 4.0 grade average. He is an active volunteer with Skagit County Search and Rescue and plans to attend the University of Puget Sound. Zach is the son of Greg and Becky Adams of Sedro-Woolley.

Roslyn Gober – is a 2009 graduate of SWHS and currently attends the University of Rochester, majoring in Biomedical Engineering on the pre-medical track. She participates in the school's Ballet Performance Group and plays trombone in several ensembles. She works part time as building manager at the school's athletic center and is an active member in the Phi Sigma Sorority, noted for their philanthropic work with the National Kidney Foundation. Roslyn is the daughter of Paula and Richard Helinski of Mount Vernon.

Jessica DeBoer - a 2010 graduate of SWHS plans to attend Washington State University and pursue a major in landscape architecture education. She has contributed her time and talent to the high school's Nursery and Landscape Team, FFA, ASB, and the Komo Kulshan Outdoor School in addition to playing soccer. Jessica is the daughter of Robert and Deana DeBoer of Concrete.

MacKenzie Shipley – a 2009 graduate of SWHS, currently attends Hartwick College in New York State and pursues a double major in mathematics and chemistry. She plays collegiate soccer, volunteers at the local food bank, and is a active member in the Colleges Against Cancer organization. MacKenzie is the daughter of Jim and Rebecca Shipley of Sedro-Woolley.

Chelsea Seidel – is a 2010 graduate of SWHS plans to attend Washington State University and major in nursing. She has participated in ASB, Girl's Wrestling, several school clubs, and maintained a 4.0 GPA through high school. Chelsea spearheaded a 2009 project to collect stuffed animal toys for children in a Guatemalan Village and delivered the toys personally. Chelsea is the daughter of Chris and Rogene Seidel of Sedro-Woolley.

Erin Nesheim – a 2009 graduate of SWHS currently attends Seattle Pacific University majoring in business. She volunteers with Junior Achievement, serves in a leadership role in her residence hall, and works part time as an office assistant at the SPU Alumni Center. Erin is the daughter of Michael and Teresa Nesheim of Sedro-Woolley.

Bailey Bartelt – is a 2010 graduate of SWHS and plans to attend Western Washington University with a major in predental studies. She plays Fastpitch ball, works on the shool yearbook,and is an active member of the Travel Club which plans a summer 2010 trip to Europe. Bailey is the daughter of Randy and Theresa Bartelt of Mount Vernon.

Seth Richards – is a 2010 graduate of SWHS and plans to attend the University of Washington, majoring in International Business with a minor in Japanese. He has been a soccer and tennis athlete, contributed time and talent to several high shool clubs, volunteered at the Skagit Valley Humane Society, and maintained a 4.0 GPA through high school. Seth is the son of Wesley and Jeanie Richards of Sedro-Woolley.

Levi Stewart – is a 2010 graduate of SWHS and plans to attend Washington State University, majoring in Sports roadcasting with a minor in Sports Management. He played football, baseball, basketball, and received two interscholastic distinguished scholar awards. He volunteers with Skagit Literacy, helping children with homework while their parents are in class. Levi is the son of Ken and Liz Steward of Mount Vernon.

He works with SPOT (Saving Pets One at a Time) and has participated in the track team, FFA, trap shooting, and welding clubs at school. SWHS Class of 1955 schedules reunion July 10th

Sedro-Woolley High School Class of '55 is having a 55-year reunion this year!

Virginia "Skip" Alwood Leitner reports that Class of '55 members are encouraged to register for the SWHS Alumni Association all-class picnic on Saturday, July 10th. Class of '55 will have their own tent at the picnic and will take advantage of the fun to have their own reunion within a reunion!

Everyone on the SWHS AA mailing list (that's about 4500 names) has received a newsletter with picnic details. More info is on previous posts on this blog site - and more will be upcoming!

So plan to attend! It's always a fun day with friends, food, festivities, and great weather! Bob Dow, Class of 72, has agreed to be master of ceremonies again this year (by popular demand, after the great job he did last year!).
