SWHS AA Membership Update

Membership dues are rolling in!  Remember, Annual memberships are $10 per year and currently Life memberships are $100. 

Our membership year is the calendar year, so mail in your membership check and be sure to include your name (including name at graduation), address, phone number, e'mail address, years for which you are enrolling (many people pay two or more years at a time), and your GRADUATING YEAR!

We also welcome "friends" of the Association as members, even if they didn't graduate with us. Some spouses and former SW School District students become members as "friends" of the organization!

Breaking news:  As of the March 28th tally, Class of 1956 has surpassed Class of 1952 in the top spot for most class members who are paid members of the Association!  Class of 1956 currently has 25 paid members for 2012 and Class of 1952 has 22 paid members.  Class of 1950 is within striking distance with 20 paid members.

Your dues are used for the administrative expenses of the Association, and any additional donations go directly to our scholarship fund. During 2012 we will award multiple scholarships to SWHS and State Street HS students who plan to pursue vocational careers. Please become a member and help make these young alumni dreams come true!

Thanks to our enthusiastic members, we have come to the end of another membership year - our membership year is the "calendar year" - and that means it's time to renew!

We have two classes of membership - Annual and Life.
  Annual Memberships are currently $10 per year.
  Life Memberships are currently $100.

The Association's Fall newsletter was recently mailed and in the newsletter is a form you can use to submit membership dues, as well as donations/memorials, or reservations for the 2012 All-Class Picnic. 

If you prefer to mail in your membership check without a form, be sure to include your name (including name at graduation), address, phone number, e'mail address, years for which you are enrolling (many people pay two or more years at a time), and your GRADUATING YEAR!

As of December 15, 2011, our year-end total membership is
  414 Annual Members
  156 Life Members

for a grand total of 570 members!

Class of 1952 still holds the top spot for most class members who are paid members of the Association with 33!

Quick news about the association and upcoming events!

Plans for the annual all-class picnic are being finalized and, by popular demand, Joy's Bakery will be our caterer again this year! Same price - $15 per person for a choice of hamburger or chicken plus salad, beverages, and dessert. The Alumni newsletter will be mailed during April and you'll have the opportunity to preregister and pay for the picnic at that time.

The picnic date is Saturday, July 9th, at Riverfront Park in Sedro-Woolley. Be sure to get that on your calendar and tell your friends and classmates. It's the highlight of the Alumni year!

If your class would like to put up your own tent at the picnic, please let the Association know as soon as possible, so we can plan the room. Also, if you want to put that information in the newsletter, or anything else about your class activities, let us know ASAP!! We know that the classes of 1961 and 1971 are having reunions - are you?

The SWHS AA paid membership is currently at 419. Our membership year is the calendar year. Dues are $10 annually or $100 for a "Life" membership. Be sure to join us!

The selection of our scholarship winners for 2011 is currently under way. Watch for the announcements and for a new opportunity to mingle with alums and the scholarship winners this spring.

Finally, our fundraising efforts for scholarships are always in progress. We welcome donations directly to the scholarship fund (and we get a lot of them - thank you!) and our next fundraising event is the plant and bake sale in early May. More info on that later. Stay tuned!

This will be the date for the Alumni Association's annual Plant and Bake Sale at the Sedro-Woolley Community Center Annex. Details will be posted later and will also be in our newsletter. You'll want to pre-order!

July 9, 2011

This is the date for our most popular event, the All-Class Picnic at Riverfront Park! Information on pre-purchase of tickets will be posted later and will also be in the newsletter. But get this date reserved on your calendar and tell your friends!!

SWHS Alumni Assn meeting Sept. 22

The Sedro-Woolley High School Alumni Association will hold a general membership meeting on Wednesday, September 22nd, at the Sedro-Woolley Senior Center. This is the regular monthly meeting - a board meeting precedes it at noon.

Come on out and see what the Alumni Assn is doing and plan to participate! One of our favorite fundraising events is coming up in November - the fall bazaar (also held at the Senior Center). You can contribute items for sale and/or shop with us! A fun way to raise scholarship funds and get some early holiday shopping done.

I wonder if there will be orange marmalade for sale again this year???

Membership rally was today!

Thanks to the faithful members of the S-WHS Alumni Assn who came to our membership "rally" this morning to hear about the association activities. We appreciate your time and interest. Please spread the word about our association and encourage your class members to become active!

This year we will award 6 scholarships to S-W grads who are pursuing vocational careers. Association members make this happen! Check back here often so you can see who the winners are as soon as they are announced!

Alumni Association Membership Rally!

Saturday, May 15th, plan to be at the S-WHS Membership "Rally"! The Association holds these informative meetings twice a year - to ensure that alumni have a chance to attend and find out what we are up to!

We'll have information on fundraising efforts for scholarships - including the recent successful geranium sale - our upcoming all-class picnic on July 10th, and ask what you would like to see the Association provide as far as member services (e.g., our newsletter and this blog!).

It's really important to have at least one member from each graduating year attend. So many classes have a person who is their focal point for class gatherings and information. That person needs to attend to be able to pass the information back to their class members, near and far.

YOU also need to attend so you can become more involved with the Association. Especially to help with the all-class picnic, which is right around the corner!

Is your class having a reunion event or any kind of gathering this year? Bring that information so we can help you publicize it!

Are you recent grads or was your graduation year way back when? All classes are welcome! This is an inter-generational opportunity!

Sedro-Woolley High School Alumni - welcome!

Welcome to the official web site of the Sedro-Woolley High School Alumni Association!

Please plan to be part of our group and part of the fun! Watch this blog for more information about all of the S-WHSAA activities.

The S-WHSAA is a 501(c)3 organization whose main purpose is to award Vocational Scholarships to S-WHS grads. We have awarded over 50 scholarships since 1996 and have increased the amount of the award to $1500 each (from $1000). We fund-raise through the year by:

• Selling items at the Fall Bazaar (usually the first Saturday in November
at the S-W Senior Center)
• Selling geraniums in the spring (for 2010 the date is May 1)
• Selling tickets for door prizes at the All-Class picnic (2nd Saturday in July).
• Accepting cash donations (including memorial and celebratory donations).

Current rates for membership in the Association are $10 per year and Life Membership is $100. Membership dues are used for the expenses of the organization.

We publish a mailed newsletter and are transitioning to an e’mail version for those members who prefer the soft copy. Our mailing list is currently for 4500 newsletters. Current paid membership is 394 (as of March 24, 2010).

The Association is ready to make other changes and enhancements to increase membership and ensure that we can continue awarding Vocational Scholarships. But we need active participation from more class members like you!

Here’s what you can do:

• Join the Association. Membership year is from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. So if you send in membership dues, be sure to specify the membership year you are paying for. Some people send in dues for more than one year at a time. See below. Attend meetings and work on a committee or two to ensure the continuing success of the Picnic and the Scholarship Program.

• When sending in your dues, feel free to include a donation for scholarships!

• Donate items for the Fall Bazaar and/or come and shop at the Bazaar. The November date will be announced; Fall Bazaar is at the Senior Center in Sedro-Woolley.

• Buy some geraniums in the spring from the Association.

• Donate a door prize for the All-Class Picnic.

• Attend the All-Class Picnic next July at Riverfront Park in S-W. Sit with your class! And mingle! 2010 date is July 10th – prepay $15 per person for chicken or hamburger entrée.
