Sedro-Woolley Holiday Magic!

The Christmas Parade was Saturday, December 4th to kick off the downtown holiday season! So much fun with 30+ parade entries, all lighted, and Santa coming along in a horse-drawn carriage. The tree is up in the center of town, the banners and lights show the way, and all store windows are festively painted. Remember to shop locally for your gifts this season!

The next SWHS Alumni Association meeting is Wednesday, December 15th. At the Senior Center, 1:00 p.m. See you there!

SWHS Alumni Assn meeting Sept. 22

The Sedro-Woolley High School Alumni Association will hold a general membership meeting on Wednesday, September 22nd, at the Sedro-Woolley Senior Center. This is the regular monthly meeting - a board meeting precedes it at noon.

Come on out and see what the Alumni Assn is doing and plan to participate! One of our favorite fundraising events is coming up in November - the fall bazaar (also held at the Senior Center). You can contribute items for sale and/or shop with us! A fun way to raise scholarship funds and get some early holiday shopping done.

I wonder if there will be orange marmalade for sale again this year???

REMEMBER!!! THIS is the only official Internet presence of the Sedro-Woolley High School Alumni Association where you will always find information about Alumni Assn events and our scholarship program.

Are you a SWHS graduating class with a web site? Send us the URL so we can link to you!!

Saturday, July 10th, was the S-WHS Alumni Assn's annual all-class picnic at Riverfront Park in Sedro-Woolley! And what a great time we had! Over 400 attended - we're still tabulating the final count - and many classes got together for their annual romp plus lots of classes mingled together! Great weather, good food (catered by Joy's Bakery), and fine company all made for a fabulous day. Here are a few photos for this blog entry - more to come!

Loggerodeo parade!

Here is a quick photo of the Class of 1960 with their parade entry! A tradition in our town is for reunion-year classes to ride in the parade [and drag class members into the parade from the crowd - if they're caught!]. Some classes just ride in the parade every year because they like it!

SWHS Class of 1955 schedules reunion July 10th

Sedro-Woolley High School Class of '55 is having a 55-year reunion this year!

Virginia "Skip" Alwood Leitner reports that Class of '55 members are encouraged to register for the SWHS Alumni Association all-class picnic on Saturday, July 10th. Class of '55 will have their own tent at the picnic and will take advantage of the fun to have their own reunion within a reunion!

Everyone on the SWHS AA mailing list (that's about 4500 names) has received a newsletter with picnic details. More info is on previous posts on this blog site - and more will be upcoming!

So plan to attend! It's always a fun day with friends, food, festivities, and great weather! Bob Dow, Class of 72, has agreed to be master of ceremonies again this year (by popular demand, after the great job he did last year!).

If you need info about the Class of '55 event, the picnic, or about the Alumni Association, leave a message after this post on the blog and we'll get back to you!

Quickly, the picnic is Saturday, July 10th, Riverfront Park in Sedro-Woolley, all SWHS alums and friends are welcome, $15 prepays your lunch reservation (menu is hamburger or chicken and salads, dessert, beverage, etc.), and the event begins at noon (we eat at 1:00).

It's not necessary to band together with your class - we encourage mingling! But many classes like to sit together and bring signs identifying their location. You'll be happy to know that name tags are provided!

SWHS Alumni Assn - monthly meeting

The May general membership meeting of the SWHS Alumni Assn is Wednesday, May 26th at 1:00 p.m. at the Sedro-Woolley Senior Center.

Come on by and find out about the success of our May 1st geranium and tomato plant sale! And get your ticket for the All-Class Picnic on July 10th - better yet, volunteer to help out at the picnic! It's always more fun when you have a job to do and an excuse to circulate among the alumni!

Our breaking news is that the 2010 scholarship recipients have been selected. As soon as the students are notified, you'll see the list here!

Membership rally was today!

Thanks to the faithful members of the S-WHS Alumni Assn who came to our membership "rally" this morning to hear about the association activities. We appreciate your time and interest. Please spread the word about our association and encourage your class members to become active!

This year we will award 6 scholarships to S-W grads who are pursuing vocational careers. Association members make this happen! Check back here often so you can see who the winners are as soon as they are announced!

Here's a photo from this morning - a good looking crowd!

Alumni Association Membership Rally!

Saturday, May 15th, plan to be at the S-WHS Membership "Rally"! The Association holds these informative meetings twice a year - to ensure that alumni have a chance to attend and find out what we are up to!

May 15th
10:00 a.m. to noon
Sedro-Woolley Senior Center
Bring a friend!

We'll have information on fundraising efforts for scholarships - including the recent successful geranium sale - our upcoming all-class picnic on July 10th, and ask what you would like to see the Association provide as far as member services (e.g., our newsletter and this blog!).

It's really important to have at least one member from each graduating year attend. So many classes have a person who is their focal point for class gatherings and information. That person needs to attend to be able to pass the information back to their class members, near and far.

YOU also need to attend so you can become more involved with the Association. Especially to help with the all-class picnic, which is right around the corner!

Is your class having a reunion event or any kind of gathering this year? Bring that information so we can help you publicize it!

Are you recent grads or was your graduation year way back when? All classes are welcome! This is an inter-generational opportunity!

Here's your trivia question for today: Who are the folks in this photo? They are part of the S-WHS Alumni Assn's leadership team. Come to the membership rally so you'll know their names!

Geranium Sale today!

Thanks to everyone who turned out for the annual Geranium Sale this morning! It was a big hit, as usual.

Geraniums, tomato plants, and baked goods were flying out the door! I don't think there were any tugging matches, but I wasn't there the whole time.

We thank you and the scholarship fund thanks you!

S-W Museum and S-WHS alumni

The Sedro-Woolley Museum has a lot of cool old stuff in it - including memorabilia from Sedro-Woolley High School! If you have not visited the museum lately, think about stopping in!
In addition to Cub apparel and the ephemera seen here, the Museum's library has a collection (albeit incomplete) of Kumtux issues and stuff salvaged from area schools. Do you have a Kumtux to donate?
For location (ok it's the old Tradewell building), hours, and other info, visit:
(Where's that hyphen?)
Lots of people come to visit the museum when they're in town for other events, like the ALL CLASS PICNIC (July 10th), Blast from the Past (June 4-5-6), and Founder's Days (second weekend in Sept.).
Another great resource for you to check is the Chamber of Commerce web site:
So come see us, whether you're near or far away! There are lots of alums around, as well as things to do in Sedro-Woolley!
Remember the geranium sale this Saturday! Next to the Community Center! Starts at 9 a.m.!

S-WHS Alumni Assn meeting April 28

The monthly meeting of your alumni association is Wednesday, April 28, at the Senior Center in Sedro-Woolley! Come on in and see what we're up to!

The big geranium sale is only a few days away (Saturday, May 1) - and I have it on good authority that there will be tomato plants for sale, too. And baked goods! In the park building next to the S-W Community Center. 9:00 a.m. start - until we're out of plants!

Does your graduating class have a web site or blog? Send us the link! Via the comments section below.

Also, watch this space for news about our 2010 scholarship winners - it won't be long until the names are announced!

SWHS Alma Mater

At the all-class picnic in July 2009, copies of the words to our Alma Mater song were handed out so everyone could join in at the close of the day. Ed Hoyt provided the words from his mother's collected papers; Mary Newberg Hoyt graduated with Class of 1920. Start rehearsing now to be ready for the picnic in 2010!

S-WHS ALMA MATER

Here beside the Skagit River,
stands our school so bold.
"Tis the royal Alma Mater
glo-rious to be-hold."

Chorus
Hail to thee O' Sedro-Woolley,
blue and white all hail.
Hail to thee our Alma Mater,
Sedro-Woolley hail!

We sing of Sedro-Woolley,
give a rousing cheer.
Raise in union our voices,
sounding far and near
!

Chorus
Hail to the O'Sedro-Woolley,
blue and white all hail.
Hail to these our Alma Mater,
Sedro-Woolley hail!

Sedro-Woolley High School Alumni - welcome!

Welcome to the official web site of the Sedro-Woolley High School Alumni Association!

Please plan to be part of our group and part of the fun! Watch this blog for more information about all of the S-WHSAA activities.

The S-WHSAA is a 501(c)3 organization whose main purpose is to award Vocational Scholarships to S-WHS grads. We have awarded over 50 scholarships since 1996 and have increased the amount of the award to $1500 each (from $1000). We fund-raise through the year by:

• Selling items at the Fall Bazaar (usually the first Saturday in November

at the S-W Senior Center)
• Selling geraniums in the spring (for 2010 the date is May 1)
• Selling tickets for door prizes at the All-Class picnic (2nd Saturday in July).
• Accepting cash donations (including memorial and celebratory donations).

Current rates for membership in the Association are $10 per year and Life Membership is $100. Membership dues are used for the expenses of the organization.

We publish a mailed newsletter and are transitioning to an e’mail version for those members who prefer the soft copy. Our mailing list is currently for 4500 newsletters. Current paid membership is 394 (as of March 24, 2010).

The Association is ready to make other changes and enhancements to increase membership and ensure that we can continue awarding Vocational Scholarships. But we need active participation from more class members like you!

Here’s what you can do:

• Join the Association. Membership year is from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. So if you send in membership dues, be sure to specify the membership year you are paying for. Some people send in dues for more than one year at a time. See below. Attend meetings and work on a committee or two to ensure the continuing success of the Picnic and the Scholarship Program.

• When sending in your dues, feel free to include a donation for scholarships!

• Donate items for the Fall Bazaar and/or come and shop at the Bazaar. The November date will be announced; Fall Bazaar is at the Senior Center in Sedro-Woolley.

• Buy some geraniums in the spring from the Association.

• Donate a door prize for the All-Class Picnic.

• Attend the All-Class Picnic next July at Riverfront Park in S-W. Sit with your class! And mingle! 2010 date is July 10th – prepay $15 per person for chicken or hamburger entrĂ©e.
